Dramatic Irony means when the audience knows something that the character doesn't. An example of Dramatical irony from the movie "Psycho" by Alfred Hitchcock would be The Shower Scene. This scene is when the character Marion couldn't hear the killer in the shower because the water was running but the audience knew he/she was there. This is dramatic irony because the audience knew that someone was creeping in on Marion but she seemed to enjoy her shower. This had the audience mad at Marion for not noticing that there was someone or at least something opening the bathroom door and then slowly going towards her.
Hitchcock used Diegetic sound so Marion could hear the shower water running but then Non-diegetic sound to create a sound that is very creepy and obvious that something is going to happen. The Audience it completely focused on the movie because they could see that there was someone there that Marion didn't.Then Marion got murdered. Hitchcock also used a two-shot to show Marion in front and a blurry person behind the curtain to create tense.
